Abstract. The current state of the carbon graphite industry is analyzed and the shortage of high-quality raw materials for the production of carbon materials that meet the requirements of consumers is emphasized. The basic physico-chemical properties of petroleum cokes and the requirements according to GOST for various brands of cokes, depending on their field of application, are described. The data on the use of petroleum cokes as fillers for the production of carbon structural materials in comparison with pitch coal and shale cokes are summarized.
